Application for Overseas Learning Journey
My name is Jerry Tan, from class 4D. I am writing in with regards to the series of overseas learning journeys that recently opened on the school website. As an avid outdoors person who already has extensive experience with camping, I would like to apply for the Adventure and Survival trip to Malaysia.
I am especially keen on this trip as I see this trip as a valuable opportunity to give back to the broader society. Living in Singapore has helped me to understand that we are truly privileged to have well-constructed infrastructure for education, which is not the case in every part of the world. This overseas learning journey, which entails building an outdoor classroom with the local school children, will allow me the opportunity to do so.
In addition, I have already participated in numerous camping trips, both with my family, and as part of activities with the Boy Scouts. On those trips, I assisted with making shelters and campfires. I feel this skill will be an advantage for the camp activities. This also helps me to render assistance to my fellow peers who are less experienced in camping. The past trips have also helped to foster my determination and resilience, traitsthat I wish to hone further on the Adventure and Survival trip.
All-in-all, I feel this trip will enhance my overall resilience, and cultivate my civic-mindedness. The absence of mobile technology and luxury items will also help me to manage my own personal screen timeand other indulgences, which I noticed has been on a rise of late. It will serve as a reminder to remain grounded, and attentive to the needs of the less privileged in our society.
